Meandering thriller with much style but little substance. Argento may have a smouldering beauty but her acting leaves much to be desired and Madsen is unconvincing.

2: Disappointing. It certainly isn't a cookie-cutter genre piece, but I didn't find a whole lot to enjoy apart from Argento's performance. She's definetely an interesting actress and her performance here is probably worth seeing. A few other characters register as well, but no one else does anything special. I've enjoyed other Assayas pictures much more. The story is a bit thin and didn't begin to retain my attention throughout.

Sexy, bizarre, brutal, yearning. That describes Asia Argento and this film. Not to the level of the brilliant demonlover or Clean, but it's a moody, deeply atmospheric, deeply odd fantasia of globalism gone mad. Also made me want to smoke. A lot.

Boarding Gate has some serious pacing and casting problems. A sulky Asia Argento and a pasty looking Michael Madsen hardly convinces as former lovers in the talky first part of the movie. The sudden shift of setting brings about a much needed change of pace, but Hong Kong seems really wasted on such poor performances and thin plot.
