Amazing revenge film. Not for anyone who can't blood. Buzz's girlfriend... woof. One of the greatest cameos ever.

"Damn," I half exhale, half yell, to no one but myself as the credits roll. I've honestly never felt that emotion before. The conclusion, and the brilliant catharsis was almost euphoric to a cinephile like myself. I stared blankly at the credits for minutes just thinking. I was so incredibly wowed from opening frame to closing frame. The force of the narrative was powerful and I find it hard to believe that this film is not on more peoples' radars. I can't say enough about this masterpiece, so my review ends here.

It begs comparisons to the better films of the Coen brothers, and we are happy to abide. This films is intense, smart, well-acted, well-crafted, and very, very low budget. With that in mind, it almost seems impossible what director Saulnier has pulled off, but he did it, and at this rate, he's gonna keep at it for a while, and that's all I can hope for.

Excellent movie! I have not seen one as good as this one in a long time!

A seemingly homeless man (Arlington native Macon Blair in a touching, nuanced performance) sets out for a revenge that grows out of control. Comparisons to early Coen Brothers are inevitable: a sly objective point of view, careful pacing, interesting observations, understated emotion and abrupt violence. Jeremy Saulnier (also an Arlington native), who wrote/directed/shot shows a mature mastery of style and cinematic confidence that augers well for his future (especially after the mess that was "Murder Party"). Every frame of this compelling film is quietly gripping and intelligent fun.
