The film attempts to reconstruct the Beltway sniper terror from the inside out. This is what the terror really was: This is how it can happen, anywhere. And that's what's most terrifying of all.

Although the actors are fine, writer-director Alexandre Moors's feature debut suffers from a lulling tonal sameness.

An impressive directorial début from director Alexandre Moors, Blue Caprice is dark and subtle exploration of madness that paints a very realistic and chilling portrait of the events leading up to the Beltway Sniper attacks in 2002. The film demonstrates some great camera work, an eerie soundtrack, and incredible performances from both Isaiah Washington and newcomer Tequan Richmond. It's a great accomplishment for Independent cinema in America and it sets standards that more indie filmakers in the U.S should follow.

Solid but the film falls short of its target.

Moors isolates a well-known drama with the fleeting nonfiction prologue and explores it from the inside out: It's not an attempted reenactment, but it does aim to get at certain truths.
