Souls still feels very inside-baseball, trusting the audience to follow along.

'Black Souls' is an Italian foreign language film. It's about a trio of brothers and the mafia that has been their family profession for generations. It's slow paced to a purpose which gives you an eerie feeling that something is always about the happen. The score is subtle but always on your mind whether you know it or not. A very engaging feature, due in large part to the natural lived-in characters and the nearly flawless acting. While it's not a classic, it's a darn good way to spend 103 minutes. Final Score: 7.8/10

The tone is pseudo-Sopranos at times, but the oppressive ambience is grippingly sustained.

It may not quite have the explosive charm of some of the classics, but Black Souls is an elegant, unsettling addition to the gangster-movie canon. Get on its unique wavelength, and you may find it transfixing.
