Wow. If you don't watch this movie with a critical eye, the ending will come across as Christian evangelical propaganda. But if you interpret it carefully, you will appreciate it as a beautifully-filmed portrait of irreconcilable cultural differences and the power of coexistence.

This is one of a few hisorical movies in which I feel i'm watching what actually took place. The film doesn't glamorize anything or any one side, whether native or european. Yet it offers realistic perspectives of each and the priest's particular inner change. Probably the greatest Canadian film.
