Beautiful, golden-layered visuals from Ridley Scott, a great Vangelis soundtrack, and a terrible script and a horribly miscast Gerard Depardieu. This one's a guilty favorite of mine...it looks and sounds so perfect you can forget how terribly written it is.

Awkward, historically inaccurate and underwhelming, Ridley Scott doesn't allow this film's flaws get in the way of a compelling story. Awesome photography, spectacular music and Gerard Depardieu's gusto acting makes it watchable. However a decent DVD release of this film has yet to appear.
