Narumi is on bad terms with her husband, Shinji, when, one day, Shinji goes missing. He comes back a couple of days later, but he seems like a totally different person, and he is now gentle and tender. He goes for a walk every day. Alien invaders assume human bodies and try to understand human?s view on life and the world. More conceptual than action-packed. Interesting premise, but gets too repetitive. All the build up for a conclusion that has been staring us in the face since the ten-minute mark.

In his attempt to painstakingly try to understand the unanswerable questions that bind humanity together, Kurosawa has made a jumbled mess out of his ideas, but one which is nevertheless fascinating in its mad-cap ambition for answers.

Kurosawa's parable about the prisons we carry about with us is thought-provoking and occasionally witty, but not concise. The Japanese title literally means "Strolling Aliens", a clue to how much the movie meanders.
