Bed and Board (1970)

Parisian everyman Antoine Doinel has married his sweetheart Christine Darbon, and the newlyweds have set up a cozy domestic life of selling flowers and giving violin lessons while Antoine fitfully works on his long-gestating novel. As Christine becomes pregnant with the couple's first child, Antoine finds himself enraptured with a young Japanese beauty. The complications change the course of their relationship forever.

Chapter 4 of the Antoine Doinel Adventure. Married; reproduction; affair; separated. A bit plain but still filling with some catchy observation & depiction of marriage life.

For Truffaut, this is middling. One of those 'comedies,' that are only theoretically funny (with the exception of the one scene with his wife dressed like a Geisha). It's probably best they ended the Doinel series here.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this one. It lacked the energy I loved of the first three, and the decisions Antoine makes are less than relatable. Still, it's interestingly shot and all that. We'll see what kind of light the next Antoine Doinel film shines on this.
