Beauty and the Beast (2014)

Forced to face the cruel side of life, a devastated, bankrupt merchant chances upon the enchanted castle of a hideous creature, the mere sight of it chills the bone to the marrow. There, a fate worse than death awaits the poor father-of-six, who, after plucking a sweet-scented rose from the repulsive master's verdant garden, must do the impossible: permit his compassionate daughter, Belle, to take his place and pay for the sins of her parent. Now, an impenetrable mystery shrouds the haunted mansion, and, as repugnance gradually turns into affection, only true love could break the spell.

I love me some Beauty and the Beast and this version was stunning!! The plot is pretty standard fare and there's a lack of character development. BUT the costumes and scenery and cinematography! ??

Strange that this movie is unknown. Of course it's cheesy, it's a fairy tale, but it's still a good movie. Although, for a romantic fantasy, there's not much romance and it's even French, but definitely still worth watching.

Very beautiful but wanted to see more romance between the beast and belle. It kinda all just happened too quick so say she fell in love with the beast.

Gans isn’t especially concerned with the outcome this coupling, instead reveling in overwrought and often bloated storytelling, lush details and some of the year’s most unnerving CGI.

Not a bad movie but it focused too much on the family and not enough on the Beauty and the Beast. That said, this movie was pretty and actually pulls from the original story rather than the story that most people are familiar with. Did not like the side story of the brothers or the addition of the forest nymphs, etc. but I did like the visuals. It's easy to watch, but I hope the new one will be better than this.
