Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)

Hushpuppy, an intrepid six-year-old girl, lives with her father, Wink, in 'the Bathtub', a southern Delta community at the edge of the world. Wink's tough love prepares her for the unraveling of the universe—for a time when he's no longer there to protect her. When Wink contracts a mysterious illness, nature flies out of whack—temperatures rise and the ice caps melt, unleashing an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs. With the waters rising, the aurochs coming, and Wink's health fading, Hushpuppy goes in search of her lost mother.

My heart is bursting with joy and tears. This is one of those films you will think about for a very long time. It just shows how a small budget makes a huge difference. I loved it and it will no doubt be in my top 5. And I've seen a lot of films. This will stay in my mind and heart forever.

Wow. Such a powerful, yet simple film. Quvenzhane Wallis was just amazing. For a six year old to pull off something like this is close to magic. A deep story, with what seems to be a undying theme of forcing yourself to grow up faster than your body lets you. Brilliant film.
