Battleship (2012)

When mankind beams a radio signal into space, a reply comes from 'Planet G', in the form of several alien crafts that splash down in the waters off Hawaii. Lieutenant Alex Hopper is a weapons officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones, part of an international naval coalition which becomes the world's last hope for survival as they engage the hostile alien force of unimaginable strength. While taking on the invaders, Hopper must also try to live up to the potential that his brother, and his fiancée's father—an Admiral—expect of him.

Well this was a pleasant surprise. A contender, imho, as the best film I have seen. And I don't say that lightly, I am normally the most critical. And yes there were a few poetic licenses used towards the end (if an attempted alien evasion isn't poetic eough). Whilst trying not to give the plot away, as an ex Naval Lieutenant myself and also losing an older brother, this actually nearly had me in tears. I'm also partial to a sci-fi and an action thriller. So basically if Carlsberg made films... I'd thoroughly recommend watching it. Great film.

Wow, awesome effects, and fueled my actions for a naval film

Battleship is a cross between a US Navy Recruitment campaign and a film based on a board game. It is as odd as that sounds. The army message of 'Your life won't amass to anything without us' message is a bit sickening and the 'Those left disabled by war are still useful' message even more so. The acting is dreadful, the script is baffling, the story is laughable, the cast is a strange mix of could do better and couldn't do any better and the aliens are rubbish. And yet for some strange reason I quite enjoyed it. I don't understand it either!
