One of my very favorites, Bambi tells a minimalist story with so many levels of enchantment, realism and surrealism, sorrow, cuteness, and images of life and death. It's a film that surpasses famous short films like The Old Mill and The Ugly Duckling by the way it weaves in so many colorful emotions in just a short amount of time. I could compare it to an abstract masterpiece, for it hardly has any reason or rhyme for existing but just looking at it long enough makes life more worth living.

Despite all the good fun, Bambi remains a potent story that touches deep fears and emotions. Few scenes in animation--or live action film--match the poignancy of the death of Bambi's mother, a sequence that still moves children (and adults) to tears.
