Part teen social drama and part crime thriller. The film is well acted (Mark Pelegrino is particularly fun as the dumb but dangerous redneck Giff), and the script is pretty good. With an interesting plot, Bad Turn Worse is good fun that moves at a fairly nice pace to it's conclusion.

This juicy tale of a reckless robbery and its spiraling bloody aftermath is enjoyably overripe pulp, steeped in grubby textures and flavorful atmosphere.

Quoting author Jim Thompson in your film will not make your film a work of Jim Thompson no matter how much you try. Such is the problem with BAD TURN WORSE a derivative film with very little talent on display. Where a writer like Thompson, or the filmmakers who have made some pretty terrific films from his books, would attest--it all takes guts and blood and making your audience feel the pain and amorality on display. Directors Simon and Zeke Hawkins generate no feeling, no mood, only surfaces. It feels like a film made by people who want to honor Thompson when in fact, they've never even read him.

An intriguing teenage riff on Texas pulp noir that doesn't quite reach the heights to which it aspires, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place is nevertheless a hardnosed, well-acted crime drama that effectively evokes locale and mood.
