An unorthodox investigation into the wrongful conviction of Randall Dale Adams for the 1976 murder of Dallas police officer Robert Wood. Using stylized reenactments and interviews with key figures, conflicting testimonies and evidence are presented to argue that Adams was framed by a corrupt justice system, ultimately leading to his exoneration.

Yes, Jeremy, some would consider this among a sub-genre of documentary called "direct film." I would have to agree with you--one of the best!

Morris does away with the 'voice of God' narration so typical to documentary film, and instead allows the fragmented, multiple testimonies intersect, dismiss and underscore one another to reveal "the mystery." Morris didn't invent the approach, but its rarely been done better. A fantastic film which examines the integrity of 'the thin blue line' between law and chaos, so to speak. The worst thing you can say about it is that Court TV owes its existence to the suspense Morris's approach stirred--only television borrows it all so badly . . .
