Angel's Perch (2013)

Angel's Perch is the story of Jack, a successful architect living in Pittsburgh, who must make the trip to his tiny hometown when his grandmother Polly, who is suffering from Alzheimer's, is found wandering outside her house one morning. But what was intended to be a two day, under the radar trip to town becomes more complicated when Jack is unable to move Polly into an assisted living facility. Torn between the career opportunity of a lifetime, caring for his last living relative and running from his own painful memories, Jack's carefully constructed life begins to unravel.

Well paced family story held my attention throughout. The characters were human scaled, the interactions emotive and real, and the acting sincere and of high quality. I was not alone in needing a few tissues to get through this poignant tale, filmed reportedly in just 18 days in the glorious WV hills.

Very poignant film that exposes through the whole human range of emotions...pain thru joy the raw face of Alzheimer's. Materfully directed...produced....acted...Pure West Virginia...country folk proud!

Angel's perch is a beautiful tribute to both those touched by alzheimers and the state of West Virginia. The cinematography, acting, and story is all incredible. Do yourself a favor and see this phenomenal movie as soon as possible.

I saw Angel's Perch in Raleigh this past week with one of my best friends from high school. We both grew up in West Virginia and had both been to Cass and, of course, rode that fabulous train. Angel's Perch is something that the people of West Virginia can be truly proud of. What a great movie... and message. The actors, the scenery, and all round development of the story, was one best I've ever seen. No one in the audience moved, nor did anyone check their cell phones (this includes myself), or chat with those around them... Everyone's focus was on that movie screen. That's a first for me. I've never seen a movie where at least one person didn't get up and leave the auditorium for one reason or the other. Angel's Perch is a first in many ways.
