A master deceiver who came out of the closet at the age of 81, Randi created fictional characters, fake psychics, and even turned his partner of 25 years, Jose Alvarez, into a sham guru named Carlos.

I remember Uri Gellar being outed by Randi during The Johnny Carson Show. People can be so gullible, because they are scared in the face of death and want to believe in something bigger than themselves. What a brave person Randi is.

This documentary seems to imply that the deception at the center of James Randi's life over the past 20-30 years is similar to the kinds of psychic tricks he's worked to debunk. Its billing almost implies that he's a hypocrite. But the two kinds of deception aren't at all similar. He tries to educate people so they're less likely to be conned. That doesn't mean he should (or that it would even be good to) tell the complete truth 100% the time. So I find the documentary about an advocate for truth, who lied about something, to be somewhat misleading. Regardless, it's a good documentary for a glimpse of his back story and life (and it can certainly spark some discussions about what is truth/deception).

I been waiting years to see this "Kickstarter funded" Documentary and was blown away by how amazing it turned out. James Randi is one of the most important people to come out of Toronto and an inspiration in questioning the unknown. He is the greatest magician of our lifetime that made crusades to expose faith healers and popular con-men like Uri Geller & Peter Popoff who profited off of exploiting the weak minded. In many cases these frauds endangered people's lives in the name of religion and magical tricks. The beauty of this film comes in a very interesting twist ending to his personal life which ties together how he was living a lie and finally comes out with the truth in several aspects. This is hands down the greatest documentary of 2014. My regret is not seeing this at Toronto Hot Docs and shaking the hand of James Randi in person.

I couldn't stop watching this picture about the unknown Canadian The Amazing Randi and the lengths to which he disproves the "magic" abilities of Uri Gellar and others. Randi's story is also complex in many ways and it is fascinating to see it unfold.
