If you’re buying a ticket hoping for a honed piece of cinema, you may be disappointed. Ambulance is instead a strong entry in Bay’s maximalist canon, his best assault on the senses since his underrated 2013 comic thriller, Pain & Gain.

Poorly planned bank heist where a kid could have come up with a better scenario. Hundreds of police cars cannot block out one ambulance? No road blocks, no shooting the tires flat, no nail strips in the road? And where in L.A. do you totally avoid traffic jams? The movie lacked realism for being made in 2022.

While Bay’s frantic approach is a double-edged sword, delivering pure entertainment from the get-go while lacking in any particularly ingenious set piece, it’s a refreshing proposition to see him return to the basics of action filmmaking.

Ambulance is unlikely to convert those who loathe Michael Bay and all he creates. But if you're on board, you're in for one hell of a ride.

Undecided if this is just a good movie or a great movie so a 7.5 it is. I very much enjoy explosions and car chases and this movie does that pretty much flawlessly. It's your typical Bay film so if you don't like any of his other exciting action packed films, then you probably won't like this one either. It even has a couple of gnarly gross scenes with a ruptured spleen and half of a guy's body and legs distorted in a grizzly way! I was surprised at that. There is plenty of violence and action and fireworks here to impress any fast paced action fan. Oh, and the acting is pretty good, too. I've seen a lot, LOT worse. Unfortunately people who have the most ridiculous standards in movies will give any decent movie a 0 for no reason. Just ignore the impossibly low scores. Those types of people even give the best movies 0's just out of spite. This one is easily a 7-9 range for most people.
