The sequences are preposterous, and the people involved knows that. At least Gyllenhaal does, because he overacts in a way that's self aware. Often scenes are laughable. Is it intentional? Some of them are. Other ones are just writer Chris Fedak being clueless.

Gyllenhaal clearly loves losing his mind as the nice-guy/bad-guy with a mad streak, and Abdul-Mateen grounds it all in some kind of sticky morality, but it’s González that holds the film together from the backseat.

Ambulance is not good, exactly. Still it is an enjoyable, oddly inspiring reminder of how many more flavors not-good used to come in, in the olden days, back when we had the luxury of regarding Michael Bay’s brand of adrenalized, lobotomized moviemaking as a menace to blockbuster cinema, rather than — gulp — one of its potential saviors.

Bay's return to his usual wheel house is a 90's action film which was made 20 plus years too late. Maybe in the 90's this would a hit, but in today day and age, and in light of many, many great action films, this flick felt outdated despite a solid work from its casts. Seeing the dialogue being screamed at every turn, with fancy camerawork used to be cool, but now it felt nauseating and distracting.
