Bogart, as retired mobster turned bigtime gambler, is easy to take.

A very funny movie. I had never seen Bogart do comedy before but he pulled it off quite nicley

Bogart is on decent enough form and the usual suspects, including Conrad Veidt and Peter Lorre, lurk in the shadows as they often did in these vehicles.

Not bad, but I really don't care to see it again. I had thought every movie I'd seen with Peter Lorre was a masterpiece, so my expectations for this must have been pretty high. It is an interesting idea to compare the moral systems of gangsters and the Nazi party, and it was sufficiently well executed, but it just didn't tug my heartstrings or command my attention like Casablanca does.

I remember watching this on the late late show, before there was cable TV, and loving it. I'm happy to see that watching it again as an adult, it holds together as a quality film, good old-fashion entertainment.
