Great neo-noir. Jason Patric is the half-wit you always knew he could be.

As neo-noir goes, this one pretty much lives up to billing. Patric is excellent, while Dern and Ward are fairly dim lights in this gritty and erotic thriller. It may not be atmospheric but manages to hit the spot without resorting to cliche. 7 or 8 out of 10.

An odd crime film, one that surprises the viewer because you only know as much as the crazed boxer knows and it does not help that he is deranged. Jason Patric is excellent here; indeed his career now looks like one long missed opportunity. But at least he has this one to hang his hat on.
