The film is beautiful, quiet, and has a really great performance by James Urbaniak.

I highly recommend this movie to all people, but particularly: people who like sci-fi, people who don't usually like sci-fi, people who like good movies, feminists, moms, dads, people against white supremacy, people who like stories, people who like characters, people who stopped watching movies after they had kids and every time they try are like oh god is this the sort of crap I used to like?? I loved the visuals, the sounds, the characters, the story, and the intelligence of it all. I can't think of another movie I've seen recently that was entertaining and impressive while not also being harmful to society in some way. It was compelling from the start, and I just wish there was a companion series of prequel and sequel novels I could read.

A brooding, moody, interesting & thought provoking film that failed to engage me. I waited for the themes to kick in for the first 30 minutes or so, and then waited for something to happen for the next 30. Something does happen in the last quarter of the film - but it seemed more of an intellectual acknowledgement of themes with rich emotional overtones than actually pulling the audience into those thoughts or emotions.
