Jack not playing Jack for the first and perhaps last time.

This is nothing less than the great Jack Nicholsons's most heartfelt and and true performances he has given since The Shining. Nicholson takes away all the bravado and ego that he has carried in most of his films and becomes a shy Midwestern everyman grappling with his retirement, becoming a widower and his daughters upcoming wedding. Director Alexander Payne known for Sideways and Election brings us to Omaha, Nebraska to a real world time and place where Warren Schmidt goes on a life journey to find out if he has ever made a difference. This is a must see film... I urge to to see this one.

This is one of my favorite Jack Nicholson movies. Not only is it emotionally stimulating, but it is also very comical almost in a dark comedy sort of way because it is also so sad. The film does an excellent job of being able to have both young and old people relate to it. It poses many questions about our lives and manages them comically and seriously in a splendid way. Everyone must watch this movie!

I've heard some negative reviews about this movie but I'm not sure why exactly. I thought it was a great movie because it demonstrates how a persons life can become completly integrated with the person they are married to, even to the point of losing one's personal identity. I love the way Schmidt expresses his new found freedom from his wife. I thought it was sad that he tried to please his wife in every detail of his life only to find out that she had an affair.

Possibly my favorite Nicholson performance and one of the funniest films I have ever seen. So much of this film rings true and its simplicity in presentation is perfection.
