18-year-old Angelina shuffles between school, a dead-end job, her exploitative boyfriend, and home, where her life consists of cleaning up after her alcoholic mother and protecting her younger sister from their menacing stepfather. After arranging an escape to San Francisco with her best friend Andrew, she soon finds herself dating a coke-addicted attorney and becoming immersed in the local porn industry, mentored by lesbian director Margaret, who has more than just a professional interest in Angelina's talents.

The fatal flaw of this well-acted movie, whose creators are sex industry veterans, is its refusal to examine Angelina's occupation from outside the bubble. You might even call it a recruitment film.

This film exists solely for two purposes; as a painfully self-righteous piece of feminist propaganda, and as a means of promoting the sex film industry as a perfect idyllic career, disregarding any questions of the ethics of the profession. The film gets 2/10 for reasonably tolerable acting from the cast, and for the character portrayed by Dev Patel, who provided some source of empathy for the audience to latch on to.

This movie had potential, but squandered it. The story of how a normal, average woman ends up in the porn industry had a lot going for it. It started well enough and seemed to be building to something profound. Instead, from a point it just drifts, and ends up going nowhere. At times it seems judgmental, then next moment titillating. Instead of objectivity the writer and director try to hedge their bets. On the plus side, Ashley Hinshaw is great in the lead role. Stunningly beautiful, and convincing. James Franco proves yet again that he is vastly overrated as an actor, coming across as a clueless kid in a school play. He is may well be the male version of Kristen Stewart... Heather Graham does well in a supporting role. Dev Patel seems a bit miscast in his role.

Another weird role for Franco in this wet limp of a film. Its neither sexy or erotic and it should have been released next year on the back of 50 shades of gray!!
