A Modern Affair (1996)

A Modern Affair is an independent feature directed by Vern Oakley and produced by Tribe Pictures. Starring Stanley Tucci and Lisa Eichhorn, the film's plot reverses the conventions of romantic comedies: instead of man meet woman - fall in love, marry and have baby, in this film the woman gets pregnant, then meets the father, then falls in love. Grace Rhodes (Lisa Eichhorn) is a lonely, successful executive whose biological clock is loudly ticking.

Slow moving, but the slower pace works for this film. What really works are the performances from Stanley Tucci and especially Lisa Eichhorn. Some excellent cinematography. If it wasn?t for a few dull patches, it would have been a great film.

Lisa Eichhorn, Stanley Tucci, and Caroline Aaron are all at their best in this one. Being a huge Stanley Tucci fan, it was interesting to see him in his first big role, before any of his blockbuster movies. You can really see why his career took off after watching it. His performance as an edgy, carefree bachelor is really convincing, and extremely relate-able for men everywhere. The plot was compelling and surprisingly relevant for a film that's 20 years old; definitely ahead of it's time.

Fun and entertaining. Brings up important issues that are still relevant today and is much more than the usual fluffy romantic comedy. Stanley Tucci is great in his role- I was pleasantly surprised to see him in this movie. Eichorn does a nice job of playing off of him and Caroline Aaron is really on in the film- she's probably my favorite part. Definitely worth watching.

Saw this on YouTube movies figuring i might as well just randomly watch a movie. I probably should have just watched that video of the dramatic chipmunk for an hour and a half. it said it was a romantic comedy but maybe the version i watched had all the funny parts taken out. Grade: D

I recently discovered this little gem of a movie from the 90's! Lisa Eichhorn plays a powerful business woman who falls in love with her "anonymous" sperm donor, a photographer played by Stanley Tucci. Its fantastic to see Stanley Tucci play a romantic lead. Lisa Eichhorn's character is extremely accessible and boy do I love the fact that she's a successful woman in a man's world. My favorite character is Grace's best friend Elaine played by Caroline Aaron who is hilariously quirky/goofy. I especially love the scene where Elaine poses as an office temp at the sperm bank in order to find Grace's sperm donor's identity. I was very pleasantly surprised by this little film. Definitely worth checking out!
