I received this DVD as a free give away and was skeptical to watch as the subject matter is traditionally to my taste. I finally watched it one day due to my appreciation of Sigourney Weaver and was very glad I did. The movie is about what happens to a woman's life after a child dies of an accident on her property and how the town turns against her. It's about strength.

interesting true life tale, a mother acused of beating children, just after a boy dies in her pond, all great including a brave role from sigourney weaver

Starring: Sigourney Weaver, Julianne Moore, David Strathairn, and Chloe Sevigny. Directed by Scott Elliott. Written by Peter Hedges and Polly Platt. Rated [b]R[/b] (for some sexuality and language). Running time approximately 2 hours 8 minutes. Scott Elliott's [i]A Map of the World[/i] is a wholly convincing drama about love, loss and redemption. I know that probably sounds completely lame and contrived, but the film proves such thoughts to be incorrectly applied. I really enjoyed this film. That's the wrong word. The film really affected me, and in all the right ways. It does run a bit too long, and there are some unnecessary elements, but all in all, this is a good one. Weaver and Moore are wonderful, as usual. [b]***1/2 (out of ****) B+[/b]

The acting in this movie is stellar - I mean Julianne Moore, Sigourney Weaver and David Strathairn are all outstanding. The one flaw with this movie is the characters - Sigouney Weaver just doesn't seem to care about anything and I couldn't relate to her. Great movie but the developement of the ideas just didn't float with me.
