This is a really good film. It's starts of like a little goofy historical epic, turns into goofy movie about making a historical epic that is based on book. In between under and top of it it is movie about relationship, silly character of Steve Coogan and his many characters and in the middle of it there is great quote where Stephen Fry is playing himself as narrator of documents and says that the book "the Life and opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman" was based on the notion that life is a chaos and you can not put that in any form. This movie is embodiment of that. Highly bright, clever and funny in the way that it tickles you to feel happy. Very colourful characters and surprising cameos.

I loved the movie about as much as I love the novel (one of my favorite books of all time!). Michael Nyman's music is a plus. I thought it to be one of the best of the year it came out.

hilarious! laughed so hard that my face muscles ached! perfect adaptation from sterne's book! self-referentiality of the issue of writing a novel is transferred to that of directing a movie.. always postponing action so that in the end there is nothing at hand but "a cock and a bull story".. so parodic, so carnivalesque!!

"The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentlemen" is considered to be the world's most unfilmable novel. What better way to make a movie out of it than to portray people having trouble trying to make it into a movie. Steve Coogan is hilarious, and this was the best comedy of 2006. Like the best of British comedy, it's absurd and profound: this is what the snobs label intelligent comedy; and by god, is it ever!
