Young writer Sam has a crush on Birdie, the cute and quirky barista at his local coffee shop. When his conventional attempts to woo her crash and burn, he takes his efforts online, creating an Internet profile embellished with all of the details that would make him Birdie's dream guy. When the harebrained scheme is a surprise success and Birdie falls for his exaggerated alter ego, Sam must keep up the act or lose his dream girl forever.

A self-aware laffer that indulges in rom-com contrivance up until the point it judo-flips them to its own ends.

Meh. The movie is almost painful to watch. I am embarrassed for Sam for all the scenes where he is all too clumsy. Birdie is ummm just a regular gal. Yet Sam treats her like she is a goddess in all too weird scenes.

I liked this movie. The cast is first rate. At first I wasn't sure the female lead was Evan Rachel Wood because she is not wearing any make-up, and I had gotten used to seeing her all vamped up in "True Blood." But she looks beautiful and natural, and her free spirit character is very appealing. This is your classic "good guy pretending to be someone he's not to win the girl of his dreams" rom-com. Hipster Brooklyn (possibly Williamsburg?) is a major co-star in this movie. The plot is not terribly original but, due to the strength of the cast and performances, is a pleasant enough ride.

I saw this at Tribeca Film Festival, and was sorry I'd chosen to see this and not something else. An hour and a half of my life I'll never get back.
