A stunning cinematic achievement thanks to gifted director Andrew Haigh, who pulls indelible turns from Brit screen legends Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay.

The final shot of "45 Years" is an emotional atom bomb.

A wonderful mixture of drama and pathos as Charlotte Rampling's character, on the eve of her 45th wedding anniversary, finds out her husband's heart has lain frozen in the ice in Switzerland for all that time. A great use of analogy to describe the secrets that we all hide as we go through life. A superb, thought-provoking film, all the better for its understated nature.

Director Andrew Haigh keeps to a realistic, minimalist approach as do his two stars - each of them mainstays of classic British cinema, and together a formidable duo.

One terrific movie. A storyline that many can relate to, supremely acted, writen, and directed. Tom Courtenay is excellent. And as to Charlotte Rampling--just give her the Oscar. Not one false note.
