"Sexy Beast" writers Louis Mellis & David Scinto offers a hard look at masculinty and revenge but not in a way you'd expect. "44 Inch Chest" is a offbeat character study with a theatrical feel. Set in a hard boiled criminal underworld, "44 Inch chest" starts with Colin Diamond's (Ray Winstone) emotinal breakdown after finding out about his wife's infidelity. In a fit of rage and frustration, Colin and his friends, a bunch of loudmouth thugs, gamblers and small time crooks kindaps the wifes young lover for some vigilante-style marriage counseling. "44 Inch Chest" is both morally complex and funny as hell. The cast is outstanding and listening to John Hurt curse up a storm as old Old Man Peanut is a downright delight and watching Ray Winstone's character Colin Diamond descending into madness only to wash ashore with his sanity and humanity intact is a moving experience.

This movie is nothing your expecting, i don't really know what i was expecting to be honest; a Guy Richie type gangster flick with a Resevoir Dog style torture seen. Instead i was surprised to find a slick emotional film of a man who has been hurt like so many of us have, the thing that seperates him from the rest of us is that he manages to portray what love is, what feelings he is going through, perfectly and without cheesy clichÃ©s. I could relate to his character so much, i loved the way he put his feelings into words. A nice bit of dark comedy throughout the film including "the cupboard" (remember that if your about to watch it) ;) A truly amazing film, i don't know why its got such a low rating from users and critics. An absoloute must see. The cinemetography, camera angles, acting, editing and script are all amazing. See it. See it! SEE IT!!!! :) best line: "This is the man of my wedding cake. This is me. And this is how small you've made me feel. I'm gonna put him back in the drawer now, where he's safe. From you."

This film explores the masculine ego at the breaking point, when a furious thug played by Ray Winstone in a mesmerizing performance is shattered by his wife's infidelity. His shifty friends played brilliantly by a powerhouse cast of British actors which includes Ian McShane, Tom Wilkinson and John Hurt kidnap the wife's lover and hold him prisoner and try get the humiliated thug to kill him. Outrageously profane, solid suspense, an explosion of unbridled testosterone. A very memorable and intense character study. Highly Recommended.
