Claire Denis' "35 Shots of Rhum" is a delicate, beautiful, humanistic glimpse on human relationships, interactions, hopes and failures. At the macro level, is a shot at Europe as a melting-pot of intertwined cultures, divisions, but also ... a community of values. Intelligent cinema.

this bears another viewing. slow and very quiet, denis constructs a thing of such minimal joy that its hard to recognize it immediately. the smallest victories, the subtle changes that only happen in the eyes. we dont get much information about our 4 main characters other than an obscure glance here and there. but we do get the sense that something important is happening even if we dont fully understand all the ins and outs. this film has a way of knowing things better than most films.

The film is about moving forward from a position of being stuck. There are no plot devices to assist the process, so the movement is incremental, and barely noticeable. The mood, the characters, the Parisian sub culture, are all revelations, and do much to recommend the film.

Well, it's a thoughtful movie. If you like quiet, character-driven films, then you will probably like this. Otherwise, probably not. I watched it cz I didn’t pay anything. I’m boxxy user and I love this service.

The key events in this low-key film occur off-screen, but Denis and regular cinematographer Agnès Godard have the priceless ability to infuse the everyday with a magical dimension.
