Big, dumb action fun, with Hawke's innate likability turned to good use by a hokey central gimmick and some nicely over the top action sequences. Just don't expect your emotions to be stirred.

It has some crazy John Wick style action scenes. It's a bit predictable although convoluted thru out. It's not great but it's also not awful. It felt like it wanted Ethan's character to be very Bourne-like. Overall I feel it was a bit too vague for a viewer to fully engulf themselves and to really like the good guys or hate the bad guys. I spent most of the time trying to figure out what's going on. There's this one gun fight scene that's entirely in slow-mo which was pretty interesting. Really good special effects to make it all look real. Ethan Hawke is a great actor and will make any shit script at least 20% better than it actually is.

Strange movie. On the face of it this is a movie I should have enjoyed because I have a soft spot for B rated action flicks. This movie has a lot of hallmarks I would traditionally hope for like gratuitous violence, some gore and a lot of action. I also like my B action movies to have smart writing where possible and I also don't mind the odd gimmick in the plot as long as it is tounge in cheek or well implemented. This movie had all of those things but there was just something missing. It had smarter than average writing, it had gratuitous violence but it just had no resonance with the viewer. I think where it fell down is that the hero, Ethan Hawke was not stoic enough. The main character of a B action movie is better if he is stoic, mysterious and has gravitas. Ethan's character didn't have that. Also the plot was quite cheesy concerning some of the characters back stories and motivation. There was also quite a long gap between the action at the start of the movie and the end of the movie with a big lull in between. Should have been good but just didn't cut it.

Potential potential, that's exactly what this movie is all about, don't get me wrong the film holds its own pretty well if you chose to overlook the obvious flaws but the biggest flaw here is the wasted potential, Ethan Hawk is no ordinary actor, yet he was given a somewhat of cliched plot that's highly predictable and its payoff is very much lacking, having said that, 24 Hours to Live is not a bad movie whatsoever but it could have been so much better.
