Harrowing story about the AIDS epidemic that destroyed so many lives, which gets nicely put together in a tough personal story from one man whose counterparts might know him better than himself. Its gripping, and one of this years true independent films.

"1985" puts together 2 terrible things: Christmas with your family and HIV. (too soon?) Sorry, beside the terrible joke I want to say that I loved this movie. Its simplicity contrasts with the complexity of that time and disease. The B&W and the photography works very well together and the lead actor give a hell of a performance. Very difficult not to like a little pearl like this one.

This movie is a rare gem! The story is told in a moving, powerful way. It's not the usual sad story about a dying young man, it reaches a lot deeper! The characters a layered and a lot more then meets the eye. The Black and white cinematography is absolutely beautiful and gives it the little touch extra.

The scope of the film is small and the locations limited, yet its ambition is big.......The sensitive performances and the black and white super 16 cinematography add poignancy and gravity to the intimate interactions between these characters.
