12 O'Clock Boys (2013)

Pug, a wisecracking 13 year old living on a dangerous Westside block, has one goal in mind: to join The Twelve O'Clock Boys; the notorious urban dirt-bike gang of Baltimore. Converging from all parts of the inner city, they invade the streets and clash with police, who are forbidden to chase the bikes for fear of endangering the public. When Pug's older brother dies suddenly, he looks to the pack for mentorship, spurred by their dangerous lifestyle. Pug's story is coupled with unprecedented, action-packed coverage of the riders in their element. The film presents the pivotal years of change in a boy's life growing up in one of the most dangerous and economically depressed cities in the US.

a beautiful and daring documentary about poor people who live in Baltimore and the way they express themselves in the society is by riding their motorbikes...

12 O'Clock Boys is one of those rare, unforgettable films, so tightly constructed and beautifully executed that it's hard not to want to watch it again immediately.

With so many advocacy documentaries on screens of late, Nathan's unwillingness to take a side is refreshing.

My Favorite Film Is 1941's Citizen Kane.

Lofty Nathan documents the peculiar amalgam of young corner "hoppers" and dirt bike counter culture in this impressive documentary that follows a kid called Pug as he works his way into the 12 O'Clock boys - a Mad Max-esque gang of dirt bike riders who cause havoc en masse throughout the streets of Baltimore. The film bears the aestheticism of an episode from the first season of The Wire, and dialogue from something you'd hear in a Young Jeezy interview, but manages to pack the emotional weight of a 'Bottle Rocket' and WILL charm the fucking socks off of you. Also two-strokes.
