A really underestimated gem and highly influential movie from Woody Allen.

This was the first Woody Allen film I saw. I was ten and I remember laughing so hard I cried. To this day, I will put this film in and burst out laughing at my favorite parts- which is all of it. Mia Farrow is a fantastic counterpart to Zelig's character.

A wonderful romantic comedy and a brilliant social satire on the history of immigrant assimilation in the United States. Allen's faux-documentary footage is technically superb and executed with aplomb. A great pleasure to watch: laughs galore, but there's a depth to this comedy that makes Zelig emblematic of all Americans.

Woody Allen's clever observations on mass society and the accompanying loss of identity take the form of a fake documentary about Leonard Zelig, a fictional character, who compensates for his own anonymity by assuming the personalities of the people around him. Within it are clever swipes at organized religion, fascism and a society entertaining itself to death. Brilliant!
