Workingman's Death (2005)

Is heavy manual labour disappearing or is it just becoming invisible? Where can we still find it in the 21st century? There's scant dialogue in Workingman's Death, but little is needed when majestic camera work by Wolfgang Thaler tells the story so well.

There are occasional moments of visual inspiration in "Workingman's Death", and it made me feel grateful for what I have, but overall it's a hollow one-note experience.

I love films like this because they make you realise just how easy life is, relatively speaking, for all of us Westerners/inhabitants of the developed world. I've been to Gadani, but I didn't get to see the shipbreaking, which is a real shame as this film shows it as something worth seeing if you happen to be in the area, just passing!!!

One of the most interesting, real and hard to watch documentaries I've seen. But it also makes you question why it's hard to watch, etc. So interesting.
