Wild Rovers (1971)

Ross Bodine and Frank Post are cowhands on Walt Buckman's R-Bar-R ranch. Bodine is older and broods a bit about how he will get along when he's too old to cowboy. Post is young and rambunctious and ambitious for a better life than wrangling cows. When one of their fellow cowboys is killed in a corral accident, Post suggests a way into a better life for himself and his friend: robbing a bank. Bodine reluctantly joins in the plan and the two contrive to rob the local bank. They make good their escape initially, but Walt Buckman and his two sons, John and Paul, are incensed at this betrayal by their own trusted employees. John and Paul set out to bring Bodine and Post to justice.

Wild Rovers seemed to start off slow & just stayed there.The 1st western ever where I couldnt sit through the whole thing

not sure if it was on purpose or not, but i found "wild rovers" to be incredibly cheesy. and whether it was on purpose or not, i liked that about it. i think the cheesiness worked partly because of the film's humor, which was, for the most part, actually pretty funny. though some parts dragged and felt like they were missing something, it wasn't enough to keep the movie from being an enjoyable one.

A film that is more compelling as the work of a specific director (whose thoughts have here turned west) than as an isolated entertainment, as an end in itself.

5.5/10. This western is highly regarded and although it isn't bad I found it to be very very slow moving and overlong. Granted, I am not a big fan of westerns, and I suppose this one is better than most. The acting is good, as is the cinematography. Will be much more appreciated for those who enjoy the genre.
