If you're a Michelle Pfeiffer or Keifer Sutherland fan, AND a David Lynch fan or appreciate art movies, I recommend "Where Is Kyra?" A tragedy akin to "Death of a Salesman" except updated to the present day, and for a divorced, middle-aged woman. Very interesting characters expertly portrayed by Pfeiffer and Sutherland. It's a little slow, with a lot of cinematic mood, so if you don't appreciate David Lynch type movies or "art" movies, you probably shouldn't see this. It had more pregnant pauses than I care for, but the thing that makes this movie so compelling is the characters. Some of the cinematography was quite beautiful. If you can stand sitting through some cinematic mood parts, it's an important, and timely story, a tragedy of our times. A very important movie about the times we live in.

Definitely not for everyone, but Pfeiffer and Sutherland are both superb here. However, the filmmakers really ask a lot of the audience, with many shots in virtual darkness and from a distance, terribly irritating music, and nearly a constant depressive tone. Still those two performances were worth the price of admission for me. Finally,at least the film has an appropriate ending and not a convoluted one like so many others today.

Is it possible for a viewer to be touched by a character’s predicament and despair when every element of their life is so strikingly arranged? Because Pfeiffer disappears into her role and plays it small, and because Dosunmu’s modus operandi privileges visuals and the unspoken over dialogue and facile melodrama, the film sort of gets away with it, if just barely.

Here, Pfeiffer’s Kyra is our conduit to a world of anxiety and destitution within a seemingly exciting, glamorous city. And she’s absolutely heartbreaking with just the slightest register of sadness in a gesture or facial expression.

It's a difficult movie with little in the way of brightness - except, of course, for the still-spellbinding, still-essential actress whose talent radiates from its center.
