What's in a Name (2012)

Vincent, a wealthy real estate agent, is invited to dinner by his sister Elizabeth and her husband Peter, both professors in Paris. Claude, a childhood friend and trombonist in a symphony orchestra, is also present. Vincent brings news from the prenatal examination of his and his wife Anna's unborn son. The name chosen by the soon-to-be parents strongly offends the others for many reasons. The dispute between the guests quickly escalates and before long the resurgence of old grudges and hidden secrets is unavoidable...

This movie can be compared to "Carnage" by Polanski, as we face the same type of crazy funny and completely insane situations. People argue, hurting each others feelings and the movie just keeps your attention.

This deftly-handled film version of a hugely successful French stage play zips along with an assured cast boasting chemistry and timing. In the course of an evening old friends find out more than they expected about each other when they start an wide-ranging argument about one of their number's choice for their imminent baby's name. More and more emotional baggage emerges and it all gets built into a colossal barney. This is no Secrets & Lies though - it's all strictly played for wry laughs, and there are many, along with a few surprises. Try not to read too much about it, because some reviewers will be bound to give away the best bits!

Très bonne comédie. Beaucoup mieux que je ne pensais. Des acteurs au top servis par de très très bons dialogues. Vraiment, ça fuse pendant 1h45 et pour une fois, les Césars pour les acteurs (Benguigui et De Tonquedec, ndtjp) ont été mérité. Le début peut faire même penser à du Jeunet. A voir.
