Why was this received so poorly? A big, brash, dramatic and beautiful film that kept me interested and fascinated the whole way through.

Came in knowing nothing about this film and enjoyed what I saw. Good acting performances, a good story, interesting cinematography, blah blah blah.

Any film with Madonna involved in instantly gets slammed by critics, but this was a surprisingly good, intriguing story. It was beautifully shot and well-acted. It was also interesting to hear Wallis' story, in terms of how it illustrated how much she lost and had to give up as a result of Edward VIII's abdication. With the intertwined storylines of Wallis and Edward and a New York housewife who is obsessed with her in 1998, this was more than just a straightforward historical film, which added to its appeal. Instead it becomes more about the universal theme of searching for meaning in life.

I don't understand why nobody likes this.. W.E. is great surprise and I believe Madonna has done a very good job.. Not to mention it is one of those movies that "Feminism" is all over everything but Madonna manages to cover everything from every angle and show a great picture from what was happening in the 30s and 40s inside the British Monarchy walls.. I have to say -historically speaking- this is much more believable than the King's Speech.. Kudos to you Madonna! Loved it!
