В заброшенный поселок на берегу Волги приезжает молодой археолог Андрей, он занимается раскопками. В поселке остались только дед Роман, у которого Андрей останавливается, и семья Сергея, который живет тем, что тайком глушит рыбу и продает икру. Андрей сначала относится скептически к стараниям деда восстановить затопленную церковь. Он начинает ухаживать за женой Сергея — Людой, пытаясь легкой интрижкой скрасить свое времяпрепровождение. Но постепенно с Андреем начинают происходить изменения. Он начинает помогать деду восстанавливать церковь, и его ухаживания за Людой перерастают в серьезное чувство.
