Omnibus by three young directors in the spotlight of Japan's independent film industry, dealing with the theme of "lost virginity." Yoshida Koki, whose film {Household X} was an official selection for the Berlin International Film Festival's Forum, depicts a woman in her thirties losing her virginity. Kazuyo (Masaki Sawa) is a 35-year-old pharmacist living quietly on her own. One day, her interest is piqued by the pseudo-sexual harassment approach of Ryo (Yanagi Shuntaro), a high school youth, and her body gets a taste of sexual desire.

Only about 1/2 way through the movie and I'm not sure what I think. The camera angles are nauseating and the acting subpar.

The more you consider the theological undertones of Virgin, the more radical it becomes.

[b]DVD[/b] First Viewing, 1 Kampmeier film seen [i]Virgin [/i]is a better satire on religion than [i]Saved![/i] The only problem is that it is supposed to be a very serious story - not a blatant parody. While some of the scenes in [i]Virgin[/i] are truly devastating, showing us that Jessie's character was raped in the first 15 minutes (proving she hasn't really been impregnated by God) removes all mystery from the story. At least [i]Birth [/i]was engaging because we really wanted to know how the little boy could be the reincarnation of Nicole Kidman's dead husband.

This is not an easy movie to watch, but it's good. Depressing, yes. Disturbing, definitely. But it's also very eye-opening. I recommend seeing this at least once.
