Very Young Girls (2007)

Should be mandatory viewing for everyone. Let me just quibble with the synopsis: saying "underage prostitution" makes it sound like underage prostitution is a subset of prostitution when, in fact, the average age of entry into prostitution in the United States is thirteen, so it is, in practice, impossible to separate out some kind of safe, consent-filled "adult prostitution". Every sex worker should be assumed to be a victim of human trafficking and sexual, physical, and emotional abuse until proven otherwise. This is a film about prostitution, period.

Very thankful for the work that GEMS has done and continuous to do. I sincerely admire those battling to rescue these girls from the hands of such filthy men and their lewd practices. But, unfortunately, those filthy men are not the only culprits. Where the hell where/are the parents? Although I felt much sympathy for those girls, the steadfast adherence of some of them to continue living the life, or their long infatuation with their pimp, was so frustrating! The movie overall shed light on a problem that must be challenged not only with the help of our trusty legal system but also with the love and support of those who care.

Even with too many annoying bleeped names and obscenities, in their own ways and words, these girls honestly tell their backstories that are individual yet of a piece.

escellent doc work going on here..this is a problem that needs to be addressed but is rarely...a well done doc that brings to light some very serious problems.
