Beautiful doc about a sad situation for Chinese peasants who live along the Yangtze River who are constantly being forced to move away by the flooding of the Three Gorges Project, to ensure the Chinese tourism industry survives.

In doing so he photographs a landscape and country going through profound change on an almost unimaginable scale, all of it building to a final scene that's chilling in its Joseph Conrad-like uncertainty.

I really appreciated that this film was a straightforward narrative, with little narration (if that makes any sense). Not perfect, but good.

Compassionate though melancholy. A requiem for the forever lost past with serious concerns for the future of the ancestral motherland. Great efforts by a Chinese-Canadian.

Poignant and engaging. About the river just before it was flooded. Terrible options for dislocatees and their children--go work on cruise ships with brutal work conditions and isolated from family, move to crappy government apartments and get gawked at by tourists, or live in the streets. Tragic--these are real people, I wonder what happened to them all. One asks, why would they do this to their own people?
