They're celebrating. What are they celebrating? The mere fact of being alive... weirdly festive and triumphant,... Something deeper, darker, accrues from the post-adolescent prankishness. If we survive, we all grow elderly, lunatic and happy-go-lucky.

Creepy. Seemingly pointless. Rude. Confusing. Strangely watchable. The whole nihilism and destruction theme seems a little juvenile but there were enough WTF moments to keep me engaged.

A rotten eulogy for the American dream, or what's left of it, told as a waking nightmare. Like Werner Herzog, whose "Even Dwarves Started Small" is probably the closest comparison I can draw to Trash Humpers, there's a sense of mania about it. Chaos is loosed, and the results are insane, jaw-dropping, and even funny in parts. Take it or leave it, Harmony Korine's vision is unique, disturbed, and unsettling. He's not an easy filmmaker to digest, but perhaps that's the point - or is there one at all? Maybe that's the point. Make it. Don't fake it.
