I honestly don't care what the critics are saying. I though this film was brilliant. It's a question as old as time, is it worth giving up our autonomy as human beings in order to solve all of our problems; disease, deformity, environmental detriment, war, perhaps even overcoming death itself? When a man merges his consciousness with that of an artificial intelligence he (it?) is able to through nanotechnology regenerate damaged cells on a molecular level---releasing "a positive virus." But the cost of benefiting from this technology is joining a collective mind. The man/computer says we remain autonomous, but those still unconnected are understandably dubious. We also doubt whether the man still exists within the AI. Seen through the eyes of his wife, we long for it, but even she doubts. In the end humanity chooses autonomy and a new Dark Age. Only when its too late do we realize we might have made an irreparable mistake.

The fact that "Sci-fi" movies like 'The Avengers' and 'Captain America' get better ratings shows how under-developed the human mind is. Somehow, Hulk smashing imaginary aliens from another world is more meaningful than how humans fear that they do not understand. There is a lot you can learn about how pathetic the average human behaviour is from the movie.

An interesting concept that was ultimately poorly executed. It was worth the watch, but not more. The Overlord DLC for Mass Effect 2 was a way better treatment of the same concept.

Totally under-rated movie. Really enjoyed it. I've been consuming a lot of content recently related to AI (pretty much everything Nick Bostrom has eve written or spoken), and I can assure any one else who has a passing interest in the future of machine intelligence, that there isn't a movie quite like this.
