Transcendence is a great movie. I think the reason behind the bad reviews is the gossip around Johnny Depp. Some big name magazines, etc, usually put bad reviews on every johnny depp movie. I was not disappointed at all during this movie. It kept me up late at night thinking about it. There are some unanswered questions the movie gives you, and it makes you try to come up with the reasons. This movie was definately a bold beautiful performance, with some futuristic twists. It does have some drama, and a lot of action, so if you are into that, you would agree. I recommend it to all viewers. Remember, some bad reviews aren't always true. I suggest watching it earlier in the day, if you don't like staying up all night thinking, though.

Wow - this was a great movie throughout. Very intelligently written, great actors and a realistic and thoughtful story. The anti-hero wins by giving up. Not a very popular one, unfortunately, but if you enjoyed ex machina, you will also like this movie. I came away extremely impressed.

I honestly don't care what the critics are saying. I though this film was brilliant. It's a question as old as time, is it worth giving up our autonomy as human beings in order to solve all of our problems; disease, deformity, environmental detriment, war, perhaps even overcoming death itself? When a man merges his consciousness with that of an artificial intelligence he (it?) is able to through nanotechnology regenerate damaged cells on a molecular level---releasing "a positive virus." But the cost of benefiting from this technology is joining a collective mind. The man/computer says we remain autonomous, but those still unconnected are understandably dubious. We also doubt whether the man still exists within the AI. Seen through the eyes of his wife, we long for it, but even she doubts. In the end humanity chooses autonomy and a new Dark Age. Only when its too late do we realize we might have made an irreparable mistake.
