Based on Haruki Murakami's short story, an atmospheric and slow movie. I was amused that Jun Ichikawa's vision of Murakami's world is so close to my mental image. Five stars for photography.

As close to perfection as I think is possible... a patient, poignant, simple look at the complex yet paradoxically simple nature of life, loneliness, love, loss, and hope. Not pretentious like many "Hollywood" romances/movies

Watch it on a rainy day, and immerse yourself in a Murakami-sque loneliness. It will tear you apart, leaving you with the sound of Sakamoto's piano echoing for a long time.

This is one of those movies where you either give yourself up to its rhythms or give up entirely. It took me a few minutes to get used to it, but I found Tony Takitani absorbing and loaded with emotional power.
