Nine-year-old Tibor has only one friend: his outdated house robot T.I.M. When his father trades his robot in for a newer version Tibor manages to save his friend from dismantlement and undertakes an epic journey to the only person who can repair T.I.M: the mythical robot maker Hector Sammler. But on this voyage through an unknown world T.I.M. slowly but surely falls apart and the question arises if they will ever find Hector Sammler if he even exists at all...

Tim comes close to reproducing the plot of Doubt, in negative-space fashion. That is, for this go-round, we spend all our time with the uncomprehending kid (if he is uncomprehending?) and his teacher-nurturer-desirer.

I thought that this was really touching. It's about a young nice-but-dim man who gets a handyman job at a sophisticated woman's house, but after teaching him to read they fall in love. I particularly enjoyed the scenes at his family's house as well. It really had a British feel to it, rather than being set in Australia!

Early Mel Gibson flick which shows him playing a 'simple' fella in tight shorts falling for an older woman. Ticked all my boxes and passed an afternoon.

More than thirty years after this movie was created, I actually enjoyed stumbling on this in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. I can see why Mel Gibson became such a star, I couldn't look away from the screen.
