I've tried FIVE times to get through this film, given the fact that the Alien [a man in a six foot suit] appears four fifths into the movie! A classic in terms of cheesy 50s B-Movie, but compared to War of the Worlds (1952) and Forbidden Planet (1956) it is pretty bad. The effects though were advanced for the time period, especially with the EPIC painted backdrops.

This was apparently well received in its day, which made MST3K choice of this movie a little daunting. Well it aged like crap.
