One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Loving dysfunction at its best!! There were three quotes by Judd Altman (Jason Bateman) that really resonated with me: "It's hard to see people from your past when your present is so cataclysmically screwed up." "I've been chasing this idea about a perfect life but life is unpredictable and irrational and complicated and I want a complicated life." Of course I can't find or remember the third between Penny and Judd about how love was complicated and that's what he wanted.

A really great movie with an amazing cast. The plot is a rather simple family drama involving the death of the siblings (Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Corey Stoll)'s father, a cheating wife, and other romantic problems as they struggle to live together in one house for a week as per their dying father's last wish. The comedic moments are great and really allow the human way the characters react to the complicated lives they all lead and all the problems that arise in them, showing them coming together and actually feeling like a real family.

This is actually a really beautiful movie. I think there is a lot of negativity towards it because people just don't seem to get it. With the high quality comedic cast, you expect a lot of laughs and a funny story line but that's not what the point of this film is. Without the comedic actors the story would have been too heavy, they're there to deliver a deep script in a palatable way and portray serious issues in a way that keeps the audience engaged. Quite similar to Garden State but with a little less quirk and a little more reality. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You couldn't assemble a much better cast than this. Very sweet yet difficult at times as it dealt with the death of the father, children figuring themselves out, and coming out ok in the end. Rent the next time you need a movie recommendation. Names like Jane Fonda, Tina Fey, Jason Bateman to name a few in this cast.
