Farley Granger is not my favourites and sometimes he's annoying. The movie is ok but the middle dragged a bit.

a truly unique film-a groundbreaking entry in a distinctly American genre that announced in no uncertain terms the arrival of a major new talent

They Live by Night works well as a crime film and even better as a romance.

A decent film noir but hardly deserving of it's reputation - hindered again by another wooden performance from Farley Granger. More focus should have been directed toward Jay Flippen and Howard Da Silva as Granger's bank-robbing partners.
