It feels slow and long, but I can't really think of a scene that doesn't add to the movie as a whole.

fantastic film that reminds one of the Sisyphusian myth. the lead actress is caught up with a desire to live a different life, but cannot escape her own. This tension pervades all the characters in the film and for the lead is brilliantly played out, by having her be part of "the world" theme park, where she plays people from different cultures. A key film from a very interesting film-maker. and plays roles from people

Jia zhangke has brilliant style. He's not only sensitive and sharp in selecting his subject matters, the still camera shots are just mersmerizing and convey strokes of genius. Of course, I think the actors' talent play an essential role, when there is no camera gimmick to fool your eyes. Jia's the new zhang yimou, except that he's in my generation!

Jia's first 'above-ground' movie. I didn't like it the first time because of the stupid animation thing, but the more I watch it (watched 4 times so far), the more I like it. The ending tho, is kind of rough...you think it's a suicide? or accident?

Despite the critical acclaim, I don't see this as one of Jia ZhangKe's best. The storyline lacks strength to hold me in my seat. Having said that, the theme itself promises a great movie. Also, the music is good.
